About Us

Hey, we're a couple who like Scotch but also live on a budget. This blog is a way for us to review some reasonably priced Scotches for you. This place is still a work in progress, so bear with us while we find our stride.

Hi! I'm Rebecca!

I wear a lot of hats around here - wife, mom, photographer, budding gardener (see what I did there?), and calligrapher. I work as an environmental consultant, but dream of owning a flower farm and frolicking in the fields every day.

I didn't start to care too much about Scotch before I met Steven, and didn't care to learn about it either. Somehow, Scotch has this stereotype of being expensive and for serious men, only. So not true! I've come to find out how silly and outdated that stereotype is! There are so many Scotches that are easily accessible on the market now, that there truly is something (probably a lot of things) for every palate and budget. I'm here to break the "Scotch is for serious men" stereotype, and give your my lighthearted, candid take on each of these scotches.

Favorite Scotch: Starts with a "Glen". Could be a Glenlivet, Glenmorangie, or Glenkinchie.
Favorite non-Scotch whisk(e)y: Suntori Hibiki 12
Favorite non-whisk(e)y drink: Gins! I love the variety that comes in a good gin, similar to a good Scotch. Right now, I'm loving St. George gins.

Hey! I'm Steven!

Rebecca agreed to marry me back in 2013, and we had our first son in August of 2017. I build and repair guitars (and other instruments) for a living, and I'm also a bassist with the Athens Symphony Orchestra. I've found that I really like expensive whisky, but (like most people) I can't afford to buy a $100 bottle each month. Now we're on a quest to identify the good stuff in the lower price range and also call out some of the varieties to avoid. I like peaty whiskies; Rebecca doesn't.

Favorite non-Scotch whisky (so far): Hibiki 12
