Single Malt Review #6: The Singleton of Glendullan 12

We bought The Singleton on a whim, based on price and some brief online research and reviews. We were pleasantly surprised at just how good this one was, how complex, and how cheap!

Here's the rundown:

Style: single malt Scotch
Age: 12 years old
ABV: 40%

Nose:
apples, pears, cider, beer,
Taste:
apples, pears, lemon, honey, port
Finish:
crisp, clean, refreshing, warm, spicy
Verdict:
If you're new to Scotch and think that it may be risky to drop some $$ on an expensive bottle, definitely give this one a try! It's not expensive, and it's a crowd-pleasing and complex pour. This one may become a contender for the best budget scotch!
Bottle/Package Design:
9/10 - I love the bottle and box design on this one! There are a lot of thoughtful design elements that are reminiscent of fish scales or water, to call back to the main company logo of the fish. The monochromatic design (with copper accents) is refreshing balance between the modern, classic, and sophisticated. The design also incorporates several serif, sans-serif, and script fonts effortlessly. Personally, I just really like it :)

Nose:
Cider, vanilla, molasses, dark chocolate, cooked raspberries
Taste:
Sweet apple juice, vanilla, white wine, honey, pears, very sweet
Finish:
White wine carries over, gives way to brown sugar and hard caramel candy, warm and spicy
Verdict:
This would be a great first Scotch or something to share with someone who's only tried peated whisky and doesn't like it. Are there better whiskies at higher prices? Definitely, but for less than $35, it's really tempting to just keep a bottle at the house. You really should try this.
